Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about counselling in Dublin and how MindWell can support you.

What should I expect in my first session?β–Ό

Your first session is a gentle, no-pressure conversation. We'll discuss what brought you to counselling, your goals, and any concerns you have. It's also a chance to see if we're a good fit β€” no commitment needed. Sessions typically last 50 minutes.

How much does counselling cost in Dublin?β–Ό

Our standard rate is €75 per session. We offer a limited number of reduced-fee places for students and those on low income β€” please ask about availability. Some private health insurance plans in Ireland cover counselling; we can provide receipts for reimbursement.

Do I need a referral from my GP?β–Ό

No referral is needed. You can contact us directly to book an appointment. However, if you're under the care of a GP or psychiatrist, we're happy to coordinate with them (with your written consent) to ensure continuity of care.

Is online counselling as effective as in-person?β–Ό

Research shows online counselling can be just as effective for many issues, including anxiety and depression. We use a secure, encrypted video platform. Many clients find it more convenient and equally supportive. We're happy to discuss which option suits you best.

How many sessions will I need?β–Ό

The number of sessions varies by individual. Some people find 6-12 sessions sufficient for a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly review your progress together and adjust the plan as needed. There's never any pressure to continue beyond what feels right for you.
